Besut Barge Dismantling

Project Overview

The project involves the dismantling of a grounded barge located off the coast of Besut, Terengganu. The vessel was in a severely deteriorated condition, partially submerged and posing navigational and environmental risks. Due to safety concerns and unstable seabed conditions, a crane barge operation was not feasible. Instead, the team employed a cut-and-pull-up method, using underwater cutting techniques and heavy-duty winches to recover each section of the hull safely. All dismantling activities were carried out with approval from the relevant maritime and environmental authorities. The recovered steel sections were transported to the shore, then processed and delivered to recycling facilities.
